School Canceled Wednesday, Feb. 20
Due to the projected snowstorm, Bloomington Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday, February 20. This includes all early childhood through grade 12 schools in the district.

Additionally, the following programs have been canceled:
  • All early childhood programs, including preschool, ECFE, ECSE and screening programs.
  • Kids’ SAFARI, Early Learners Academy and Galaxy
  • Metro South Adult Basic Education
  • Community Education
  • Adult and youth enrichment classes
  • The district’s two Activity Centers at Jefferson and Kennedy high schools
High school students participating in athletics/activities should check with their coaches.

Jefferson, Kennedy high schools name ExCEL Award nominees

Bloomington high school juniors Luci Bianchi and Charles Maki (Jefferson) and Olivia Morales and Ulyses Perez Perez (Kennedy) are this year’s ExCEL (Excellence in Community, Education and Leadership) Award nominees.

Each year, high school juniors are recognized for their involvement in school activities, volunteer efforts and leadership qualities. Nominees are eligible for a statewide award. ExCEL winners will be recognized during the 2017 winter tournaments.

Bianchi is a member of Jefferson’s student council and participates in soccer and hockey. She serves as a Pathfinders mentor and volunteers as a youth hockey coach.

Maki participates in band, speech, DECA and math team. He is captain of the debate team and volunteers with Arc’s Value Village.

Morales has participated in basketball and lacrosse, as well as Kennedy’s varsity show choir. She is a member of student government and National Honor Society and serves as an Ignite mentor. Morales also volunteers with her church, Feed My Starving Children and a local nursing home.

Ulyses Perez Perez plays soccer and tennis and is active in National Honor Society and student government. He also volunteers with a retirement home and Kennedy’s theater department, as well as coaching youth soccer.
